2023 NORA Symposium Highlights: Changing the Climate of Worker Health and Safety

The 2023 National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Online Symposium was held via online webinar on April 27, 2023. The theme was “Changing the Climate of Worker Health and Safety: A Forum on Lessons and Actions to Foster a Resilient Workforce.”  The symposium featured presentations and interactive discussion with a panel of experts on the effects of climate change on worker health and safety in a variety of industries and workplaces.

As in previous years, the symposium was co-sponsored by the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety (MCOHS) Education and Research Center and the Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH).

WHAT ATTENDEES HAD TO SAY:

The panel was excellent, a wide variety and nice cross-section of occupational experience and people.
The talks were compelling. I found the poster discussion of particular interest as was the talk on wildfire fighters.
This is such an important awareness , the world is changing it will take a many disciplines to work together to be innovative.
The Q and A sessions were engaging and informative.  The experts presenting gave real life experiences and valuable answers that I may not have considered previously.

VIRTUAL POSTER PRESENTATIONS

The symposium began with a virtual poster session. Students and partners from MCOHS and UMASH provided short video presentations on a variety of occupational health and safety research projects and topics. Following the videos, the presenters engaged with attendees in a live Q&A session, facilitated by Dr. Susan Arnold, MCOHS Deputy Director. This interactive exchange led to further discussion on the individual projects, as well as ideas for ongoing and future research.
