I am privileged to assume the position as Residency Director for the HealthPartners Occupational & Environmental Medicine (OEM) program. I am committed to working with our superb cadre of physicians and residents to maintain and strengthen the reputation of the OEM department and residency program. Our goal is to become a stronger and more academically positioned program over the next 5-10 years. Our relationship with the University of Minnesota School of Public Health & the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety is a vital part of our identity. The opportunity for our residents and staff to collaborate with the academic leadership at the UM-SPH in their training and practice provides a unique podium from which to advance the mission of clinical, occupational, environmental, & preventive health service. Practicums with local corporate exemplars as well as the Minnesota Department of Public Health ensure that our residents are expertly trained.

I am a native of Mason City, Iowa and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1976 with a degree in Literature. I am a 1984 graduate of the University of Minnesota medical school. I completed my Preventive Medicine residency training and MPH degree at the University of Arizona from 1994-1996. I began working at HealthPartners (HP) in 2000 in the Occupational & Environmental Medicine (OEM) department; I was the interim OEM Department Chair 2004-5. I served as the lead for the HP Sports Medicine program within the Department of Orthopedics from 2005-2009. I continued to provide didactic programs for the OEM program from 2010-12 after serving as the CMO of a private medical business. I worked at the University of Minnesota, Department of Orthopedics from 2012-14. I have served on eight international trips with US Alpine Ski Team and US Figure Skating Teams. I participate in masters swimming and Nordic skiing, and live with my wife, Marnie Wells, in South Minneapolis.
