David S. Abrams, CIH, MSPH, a practicing industrial hygienist, is the founder and president of ARS Environmental Health, Inc. He focuses on practical and pragmatic approaches to the challenges of occupational health and safety in today’s economy while providing industrial hygiene consulting services to large- and medium-sized corporations since 1997. David has also worked for Clayton Group Services (now Bureau Veritas) as Regional Manager of the Minneapolis office, The A.J. Abrams Company, 3M, and Olin Corporation.
David is an active volunteer in Health and Safety. The industry and discipline has been good to his family for two generations and he believes it is important to give back some of what he has earned. He serves on the Advisory Boards for the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety and the associated Continuing Education, and IH/HSAT programs where he also volunteers as a Mentor. David also serves on the Board of the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation, where he is a Past Treasurer, and the AIHA Finance Committee. He is President of the Upper Midwest Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, 2011 and 1998, and a Past President of the Northwest Chapter of the ASSE. He is past President of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Respirator Committee and a past non-voting member of the ANSI Z88.2 Committee on Respiratory Protection.
David is an instructor in the School of Public Health Continuing Education Program and has also served as an instructor at NIOSH-funded programs for the following ERC programs: University of North Carolina; New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry; and University of Washington.
David volunteers outside of the profession on the Educational Services Advisory Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee in Hopkins Independent School District 270 and is a past member of the Citizens’ Financial Advisory Committee. He also volunteers with Nechama (Comfort) Disaster Response when his back allows and was a youth soccer coach for many years. David serves on the Board and Executive Board of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Minnesota where he is a Past Treasurer.

Mr. Hannan has been a Safety, Health and Environmental professional for 21 years. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1990 with a B.S. degree in Biology. The first 10 years of his career were spent as an environmental regulator for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. From 2000 until 2007 Mr. Hannan served as the Emergency Response and Health and Safety Manager at Bay West, Inc., St. Paul, MN. Mr. Hannan is presently employed by the AGC of Minnesota as Safety Director. Mr. Hannan is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a Hazardous Materials Manager.

Scott Huberty is Loss Control Supervisor with Meadowbrook Insurance Group’s Minnesota Office. In Minnesota, Meadowbrook serves as a third party administrator for a number of workers compensation self-insurance groups (SIGs). Scott is responsible for development and implementation of loss control and risk management services for the members of their SIGs. On a daily basis he provides safety training and consultation services for the members of Meadowbrook’s self-insurance groups. He is also a frequent speaker for trade associations and professional groups. In addition to his work at Meadowbrook, Scott is involved with the Northwest Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). He served as Chapter President during 2009 – 2010 and will return for another term as Chapter President for 2010 – 2011. Prior to joining Meadowbrook in 2003, Scott provided similar services as a Loss Control Consultant for an independent insurance agency and a major insurance carrier. He has worked in this profession since 1989.

Katherine Waters is the Extension Food Systems Program leader for the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences. In this capacity she directs the Food Safety and Agricultural Health and Safety programs and serves as the veterinary and food science consultant for the Extension Disaster Education Network. Dr. Waters also works with the National Center for Food Protection and Defense, a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional research consortium, as a member of their risk communication team. Prior to joining Extension Katherine was an assistant professor of veterinary public health practice in the UMN College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a DVM degree from Colorado State University, an MPH from the University of Minnesota and specialty board certification in veterinary preventive medicine.
