Kim has over 25 years of experience in occupational health nursing and management of occupational clinics. She holds a Master of Science degree in occupational health nursing, a Master of Arts degree in the administration of health and wellness programs and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Kim served three terms as an elected board of director (North Center region) for AAOHN. She is currently president of the Northeast Iowa Association of Occupational Health Nurses (NIAOHN). Kim also served as item writing for the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN).
Kim was the occupational health coordinator at Mercy Iowa City where the health and safety of the1000 workers was her priority. She created the Mercy Occupational Health Program, an outpatient clinic providing occupational health care to area workers. She then joined UI HealthWorks, another start-up clinic providing occupational health care and outreach services to regional workers. As an adjunct faculty member with the University of Iowa College of Nursing, she worked with the Colleges of Nursing and Public Health as they created a new graduate level training program in occupational health nursing.
Kim then joined the University of Iowa College of Public Health as Director of Continuing Education for the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety. She taught in the occupational health nursing training program for nurses seeking a Master of Science degree in occupational health nursing. Her role in the Heartland Center has expanded to include serving as the Deputy Director of the Center and Director of Outreach. She also directs the WORKSAFE IOWA OSH Priority Network.
