Research to Practice

The Importance of Research to Practice

The Research to Practice (r2p) initiative was established in 2004 to ensure NIOSH-generated research findings were transferred and translated into the work environment to prevent injury, illness, and fatalities.

Using the r2p process, occupational safety and health researchers, communicators, decision-makers, and employer/employee groups work collaboratively to:

  • ·  Identify research needs;
  • ·  Design, plan, and conduct studies;
  • ·  Translate and disseminate NIOSH generated knowledge, interventions, and technologies to relevant users for implementation in the workplace;
  • ·  Evaluate results to determine the impact on occupational safety and health.
